At A Glance
This Target location was easy to navigate using our mobility scooters, from accessible parking through checkout. Wide aisles, smooth surfaces, automatic entrance and exit doors, and reachable checkout equipment made it possible to shop independently with little extra effort. Accessibility was strongest during quieter times, though the overall layout remained workable even in denser sections of the store.
Accessibility Rating: Excellent
Fully accessible with little to no extra effort required.
What We Observed
Parking
The parking lot includes two rows of accessible parking spaces located near the front entrance, including van-accessible spaces with striped access aisles. Some of the accessible spaces in these rows are positioned parallel to the drive lane and could be a good option for mobility scooter users. We parked in a van-accessible space with a side access aisle, which made unloading Esko’s scooter from the side of the van straightforward. Evie’s scooter lift deploys from the rear of the van, which also worked on the day of our visit.
A marked accessible pathway leads from the parking area directly to the entrance. Because the drive lane in front of the store can be busy with vehicles entering and exiting the shopping center, cones are placed to alert drivers to yield to pedestrians.
On the day of our visit, traffic was light and unloading from the rear lift was manageable. During busier times, increased vehicle traffic in this area could make unloading more challenging. If the lot is crowded, parking farther from the entrance may provide a safer and less stressful unloading experience.
Entrances
This Target location has one main entrance and a separate exit in the same area. The entrance features double automatic sliding doors that opened easily and provided smooth access for mobility scooters. The exit doors are separate but also automatic and remained open during our visit. Entering and exiting the store was straightforward and did not present any accessibility concerns.
Surfaces
Flooring throughout the store includes a combination of smooth hard surfaces and carpeted areas, particularly in departments such as clothing. Transitions between flooring types were clearly marked and included low-profile transition strips that created a smooth change from tile to carpet. We did not experience any difficulty moving our mobility scooters across these transitions, and there were no abrupt height changes or edges that required extra effort or repositioning.
Aisle Space & Shelving
Aisles throughout the store were wide and easy to navigate with a mobility scooter, allowing for smooth movement and turns without needing to back up or reposition. Even in denser areas such as clothing and accessories, we were able to move through without difficulty. Shelving included many items within reach from a seated height, while higher shelves required standing or assistance.
Restrooms
This Target location has a family restroom, which provides a more accessible option with additional space. The regular restroom includes a large accessible stall; however, the stall would not accommodate a mobility scooter inside. The family restroom is the better choice for scooter users who need more room to maneuver.
Crowds
The store was quiet at the time of our visit, which made it easy to move through aisles, displays, and checkout areas without needing to navigate around other shoppers or blocked pathways. With higher crowd levels, the experience may be more challenging simply due to the increased number of people to move around, particularly during peak shopping times.
Checkout
Checkout lanes were open and easy to access, with enough space to position our scooters comfortably. Card readers were positioned at a height that was easy to reach from a seated position, allowing us to complete payment without stretching, repositioning, or getting off the scooter. The bagging area was also within reach, and store associates were available to place items into the cart if assistance was needed. Several checkout lanes were open during our visit, and there was no wait.
Assistance & Store Associates
Store associates were readily available and easy to approach throughout the store. We were able to shop independently, but when assistance was needed in the electronics area, help was immediate and efficient. The associate clearly directed us to the correct aisle and item location.
Best Times to Visit
Weekday mornings are the best time to shop at this Target, with fewer shoppers in the aisles and easier navigation throughout the store. Visiting on weekends or during other busy times can result in heavier crowds, making it more challenging to move through the store and complete checkout.
Fun Finds
One fun and unexpected find near the entrance was a Caroline’s Cart, and we were genuinely excited to see this option available. It is a seated support shopping cart designed for shoppers who need to remain seated and are assisted by a caregiver who pushes the cart. It includes a supportive seat and foot platform and is different from a motorized option.
Target also offers motorized Mart Carts, which we use when we need to do a larger shopping trip or purchase heavier items. These carts operate similarly to mobility scooters and include larger front baskets. Target is one of the stores where the Mart Carts are charged and maintained, making them ready to use when needed.
